Thermal insulation of a wooden house with polyurethane foam



At present, the construction of low-rise own houses is becoming increasingly popular. Building technologies do not stand still, but develop constantly. The range of materials for construction and finishing of own housing is also expanding. However, many people do not change the wonderful traditions of their ancestors and prefer to build their house out of wood. And why? There are many reasons for this.


Why choose a tree?


• Firstly, the tree is in a fairly acceptable price category.


• Secondly, wooden houses are quite easy to assemble.


• The tree is good for air. Thanks to this, it is much easier to breathe in a wooden house than in a stone house.


• And, of course, the huge plus of this material is that it perfectly maintains the temperature. Wooden houses are always warm.


However, any landlord knows that the house must still be insulated. The fact is that at present energy resources are becoming more expensive. A warming house allows you to keep the heat as long as possible. At the same time, heating systems work much more efficiently, and energy costs are becoming less. And the ecology does not suffer from excessive production and fuel consumption.


How is it better to warm your house? Outside or inside? As they say, both are good. So, for example, with the idea to make interior decoration from gypsum board, it must be remembered that the insulation of the walls will be mandatory. Some people think that this will in principle be enough. It is clear that if a house is built of round quality logs, then it looks very interesting. And I do not want to cover it with any material. However, if simple non-planed logs were used in the construction, it makes sense to insulate it using the same lining, siding or wall panels.


In addition to the fact that the appearance will become more interesting, it will help prevent many negative effects on the walls. But there must be something under the skin, too. Most people use mineral wool plates for this. They keep the heat well, so in winter the house does not freeze so much. And the state of the tree thanks to these slabs is much longer than good. But even these plates have their drawbacks.

Negative properties of mineral wool




• Firstly, due to its composition, mineral wool plates sufficiently absorb moisture. Because of this, the thermal protection of the house can be reduced.


• Secondly, small particles can be released from these plates, which adversely affect human health.


• These slabs are good because the material from which they are made does not burn. But at very high temperatures, gases harmful to surrounding gases can be released from it.


It is for these reasons, the popularity of the use of this material for thermal insulation gradually decreases.


Some people use material such as polystyrene foam for insulation. But the fact is that it is even worse in its properties than mineral wool plates. Moreover, it is also a fire hazard.


What, then, to choose the material, so that the house can be insulated and do not harm your health?


Currently, the building market is increasingly given preference to such material as polyurethane foam. It represents a foam polymer plastic. And although this material has long been known to everyone — assembly foam — but it has become more widely used for the warming of houses only now.


Of course, like every material, it has its advantages and disadvantages.

• First of all, it has very low thermal conductivity. After all, this material is almost ninety percent of the air, which is an excellent heat insulator.


• Polyurethane foam has a low enough density, and, consequently, a low weight. Therefore, the walls will not create an unnecessary burden.


• This material can boast its not low adhesive properties. First, it perfectly grips with any surface, unless it is wet. And secondly, it penetrates into all small cracks. And this means that the heat completely nowhere will not leave the house.


• The application of this material is also very easy. It is sprayed on absolutely any surface. In this case, it is not necessary to prepare it additionally before application. And the coating, which is obtained as a result, will be completely continuous, without a single seam.


• Polyurethane foam is a fairly strong material. And due to the fact that it grasps well, all the building elements will be linked together.


• This material has one more excellent property. This is its plasticity. Under any negative circumstances, be it deformations or high temperatures, it will remain in its usual form. That is, it will not crumble or deform.


• Its huge plus is also the fact that it does not burn.


• This material is environmentally friendly. Harmful substances from it are not allocated. Due to this, its property can be used both inside and outside.


• The shelf life of such material is high enough. The structures, which were built approximately fifty years ago with its use, are still in excellent condition.


If you get a good master who knows how to apply polyurethane foam, then you can even do without painting. This material can be decorative and in itself, without any coating. But, unfortunately, on the outside of the house this is hardly possible. After all, ultraviolet radiation can destroy this material very quickly. That is why all the polyurethane foam is covered from the outside with paint. Thanks to it, it will be perfectly protected from destruction.

Types of polyurethane foam




The first relates to liquid material. Its structure is a closed cell. If it is applied approximately 10 centimeters thick, the house will be perfectly insulated. Moreover, it will create an excellent protection against noise.


The composition of polyurethane foam includes two elements. When they mix, they increase in volume. This gives the thickness of the applied layer. In Russia, only one component is created — one that is cheaper. But the second component of this material is created abroad and therefore has a higher price. Because of this, the cost of polyurethane foam is not so small. But its use has many advantages, and the expenses pay off fairly quickly. Therefore, it is used increasingly.


If the attic is insulated, the polyurethane foam can only be applied to the inner surface of the roof. And when the floor is insulated, the material is applied between the lags.


When working with this material, you must follow certain safety measures — use a respirator and gloves. It will also be nice to use a protective suit to protect your clothes.


To make the house quality and durable, you should not save on building and finishing materials. After all, it is not built for one year.
